These new JJ KT88’s are just killin’ it in my Ampeg SVT-2PRO! They sound amazing and what really impresses me is the construction: the glass is thicker, the internal metal parts look beefier - it does weigh more too. Just wanted to let you know how sweet that is! Here’s a shot of the installation (the amp is upside-down so I could install the rings without being a contortionist). I was extremely skeptical, but I figured if they reduced the problem 50%, that’d be great.
Last week I decided to get serious about fixing the problem, and found your dampers on the web. My other amps are heads and cabs, so I used them for recording instead. I gave up on using the amp for anything other than practice. Mesa said that tubes basically suck now, and this is just a problem that’s part of living with newer combos, nothing can be done. The tube rattle drove me nuts to the point that I couldn’t use the amp to do recordings for my ad music sessions. I wanted to write to let you know these damping rings solved a vexing problem I had with a Mesa Lone Star 100 combo. Subject: The Damping Rings Worked - I’m Amazed. The Carvin vintage series has always been known for really good cleans, but the soak(distortion) channel was very muddy/muffled sounding.
